I am sure we are all aware that the major concern of the media is the “Economic
Crisis”. House price fall, credit crunch, economic downturn are portrayed as the
major issues facing our society today. Yet for decades our country has been
suffering two much more important emergencies. The “Moral Squeeze” has been
immense and resulted in the huge increase in family breakdown, violent crime,
liberal abortion legislation, immorality in public life and many other serious
issues. The “Evangelism Squeeze” is now on in a major way and we receive
regularly reports of the authorities trying to destroy the freedom we have to
preach the gospel in public places. Police and local authorities are regularly
trying to restrict preaching and tract distribution. One local authority in
Scotland has banned the distribution of material into the letter boxes in the
area. Even professing Christians are opposing the preaching of the gospel in a
biblical way protesting that today’s society and demographics demand a “fresh
approach”. Our freedoms are being eroded daily and outright opposition is
rising. We need the Lord to give us a renewed vision for Biblical Evangelism in
our current situation. So despite the economic crisis of our nation we
desperately need resurgence in evangelical fervour. Be assured of our continued
commitment to support you as you take up the challenge of the day.
So forget the Economic Crunch – get STIRRED UP and EQUIPPED to take the gospel
to our needy nation.

WATER COMPANIES IGNORING CHURCHES' CHARITABLE STATUS
As some of you may be aware, the Water Companies are
ignoring churches' charitable status and starting to charge Churches for the
amount of area (i.e. roofs and car parks) that will collect rainwater and
discharge it into the sewer network. This will effectively raise most
churches' water bills by hundreds if not thousands of pounds. There is an
online government petition that you can register on, please register and pass
this information onto anyone else you think will sign it ..... the petition
needs at least 15,000 to be noticed and at present stands at 6305.....

CHRISTIAN CAMPAIGNERS FOLLOW
WILBERFORCE AND USE NEW
TECHNOLOGY
Two Christian organisations the Lawyers Christian Fellowship (LCF)
and Christian Action Research Education (CARE), have joined forces with the
All Party Pro-Life Group to launch a new viral campaign video into
cyberspace.
The Block of Wood Viral asks profound questions about the value of
human life in order to stimulate greater public engagement with the highly
controversial Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill which - among other
things - legalises the creation of animal-human hybrid embryos and saviour
siblings and could facilitate changes to UK abortion law.
As with all virals, The Block of Wood - expertly created by team
of artists Quirky Motion and Story Wise - is designed to be sent
from friend to friend and family to family by email. It has been posted on
YouTube and social networking sites such as FaceBook and MySpace.
Reflecting on the new viral Ian Lucas,
the All Party Pro Life Co-ordinator said, 'In the tradition of
William Wilberforce
and the abolitionists who used pamphleteering (then a
new campaign tool) to get their message out, it is important that we use every
form of available technology to raise public awareness about the shocking
implications of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill.'

Director of Public Policy for the Lawyers' Christian Fellowship
commented, 'We want to use virals to make people think about the value of
human life and how we treat one another. The Human Fertilisation and
Embryology Bill is controversial. It will pretty much allow Scientists to do
anything they want with the embryo for up to 14 days including creating
animal-human hybrids. The Bill devalues human life and will lead to the
deconstruction of a civilised society. We are increasingly isolated in the
scientific world and are sleep-walking into a Brave New Britain.'

BARNABAS FUND RESPONSE TO THE ARCHBISHOP OF
CANTERBURY'S RECOMMENDATION TO APPLY ISLAMIC LAW IN THE UK
Dr Rowan Williams,
the Archbishop of Canterbury, argued in a lunchtime radio interview on Thursday
7th February that the adoption of Islamic law, shari`a, in
Britain is unavoidable. In the evening he gave a lecture at the Royal Courts of
Justice (organised by the Temple Church and the Centre of Islamic and Middle
East Law at London University`s School of Oriental and African Studies) in which
his main argument seemed to be that in a plural multi-faith society the concept
of one universal law for all citizens must be adapted to accommodate the reality
of other law traditions in minority communities. He elaborated especially on the
Muslim community in the UK and on Islamic law, and argued for an accommodation
between English law and Islamic law so that either law system could be used for
dispute resolution and for marriage, divorce, inheritance and other matters.
ANALYSIS
While the Archbishop has the best of intentions in wanting
to create greater cohesion and harmony in British society, his suggestions seem
sure to result in the exact opposite. He seems to be taking multiculturalism to
an extreme, extending it to the legal system of the state, and thus creating new
arenas for conflict and hostility.
His view of shari`a is utopian and naïve. He has
claimed that shari`a is not the monolithic system of detailed rules
which most Muslims consider it to be, but rather an expression of universal
principles being implemented flexibly according to context by means of
ijtihad (individual effort at interpretation). While this expresses what
liberal Muslim reformists would like to see happen, the reality is that for the
vast majority of Muslims shari`a is still viewed as God`s immutable
divine law regulating all areas of life. Furthermore, it discriminates against
women (for example, in divorce and inheritance) and against non-Muslims.
It lays down a multitude of penalties, including imprisonment, beating,
annulment of marriage, disinheritance and death, for Muslims who leave their
faith.
Even Tariq Ramadan,
who is referred to positively in the Archbishop`s lecture, could not bring
himself to advocate changing the strict hudud laws of shari`a
which demand stoning, amputation and flogging. The most he could suggest was a
moratorium on these punishments for the time being, until a perfect Islamic
society arises that could implement these laws in a fair and just manner. For
this innovation he was severely attacked by many famous Islamic religious
scholars from across the Muslim spectrum who accused him of bordering on heresy.
They claimed that the hudud laws are immutable and that severity is a
valued hallmark of Islamic shari`a.
The Archbishop excludes hudud punishments from
the areas of shari`a which he recommends to be practised in the UK.
However, had he a fuller understanding of shari`a, he would realise
that no hard and fast line can be drawn between these two areas of shari`a
because of Islam`s apostasy law. The array of punishments for leaving Islam
include not only death, but also matters of family law, the very part of
shari`a which the Archbishop wants to see applied in the UK, such as
annulment of marriage, loss of access to children, and loss of inheritance.
Dr Williams
is aware of the danger that the introduction of state-sanctioned shari`a
courts could encourage the most conservative and radical elements in Islam and
disadvantage vulnerable individuals within the Muslim community such as women.
Nevertheless he seems to be blissfully confident that those who will implement
the new structures are bound to be enlightened practitioners of the ideal
reformed shari`a he has in mind. Experience of course reveals that it
is the more "repressive and retrograde elements" (as he calls them) who usually
come to the fore and take over such institutions, backed by the almost unlimited
resources of oil-rich Wahhabism and the various forms of Islamism it supports.
Wherever shari`a has been given expanded space in
the legal systems of Muslim states, it has inevitably led to infringements of
the rights of vulnerable groups such as women and children, non-Muslims,
converts from Islam to other religions, and non-orthodox Muslim communities such
as the Ahmadiyya and the Bahai. It has also negatively affected the intellectual
debate, narrowing the limits of freedom and threatening dissenters with
shari`a sanctions.
Dr Williams
seems to be so concerned about the fragmentation of British society that he is
willing to have shari`a embedded in British law so as to appease Muslim
demands and give the Muslim community the feeling that British society is really
inclusive and sensitive to its demands. He has been persuaded that shari`a
is essential for Muslims` identity and wellbeing and that it is inhumane to
expect them to live without it. In the name of multiculturalism, tolerance and
political correctness, he is happy to erode long established principles of
equality before the law and individual liberty accepted as basic in Western
societies.
Embedding shari`a in British law will negatively
impact many vulnerable members of the Muslim community: women, children as well
as secularists and liberals. They will all face increasing pressure to comply
with traditional shari`a norms. Once shari`a is in place,
community and religious pressure will make it exceedingly difficult for them to
opt to be judged by English law. The Archbishop also ignores the many
Muslims who have fled repressive shari`a states to find refuge in a
free and democratic British society. The empowerment of shari`a courts
will endanger their newly found liberties.
The process of setting up a system of shari`a
courts recognised by the state and its civil law will help those Muslims in
Britain who appear to be working to develop a network of loosely-knit Islamic
autonomous regions, a de facto non-territorial Islamic state. Seemingly
innocent and gracious concessions to such demands on shari`a contribute
to building up an Islamisation trend which could become unstoppable. Many
Muslims also hope that ultimately Britain will grant Islam, its scriptures and
founder, a privileged and protected position immune from criticism, a position
not granted to other religions. Yielding to such demands will gradually erode
the hard won freedoms and rights which are at present part of British society.
It will open the door to a totalitarian and discriminatory system that denies
individual rights and seeks to control both the public and the private spheres
in ways typical of Muslim states. The increasing application of shari`a
will profoundly change the character of British society in ways which hitherto
would have been considered completely unacceptable.
The fact is that Britain has already come a long way along
the Islamisation road. Many informal shari`a courts are operating in
the Muslim community; there is a parallel shari`a compliant financial
system; shari`a regulations such as those to do with halal
food, Islamic dress and gender segregation in physical exercises are complied
with in schools and educational institutions. Some of these regulations also
operate in public services such as the police, the NHS and the prison system.
The addition of shari`a courts whose sentences
are binding and enforceable by the civil legal system will take Britain much
further along the Islamisation track, which is the long-term goal of many Muslim
organisations. Contrary to the Archbishop`s expectations, it will narrow the
space for free discussion and legitimate criticism, limit the freedoms and
rights available to individual Muslims, and empower the more traditional,
Islamist and radical tendencies in the Muslim community.
Furthermore for the many Anglicans and other Christians
living in contexts where shari`a is being applied and causing untold
misery and suffering, for example in parts of Nigeria and parts of Sudan, the
Archbishop of Canterbury`s suggestions are not just unwise, but insensitive to
the point of callousness.

SILENT MAJORITY : THE TRUTH IS WE
ARE IN TROUBLE
A man whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II owned a number
of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true
Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism.
"Very few people were true Nazis "he said," but many enjoyed the return of
German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just
thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let
it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control,
and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a
concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories."
We are told again and again by "experts" and "talking heads" that Islam is the
religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in
peace.
Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It
is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow
diminish the spectre of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of
Islam. The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history.
* It is the fanatics who march.
* It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide.
* It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups
throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an
Islamic wave.
* It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honour-kill.
* It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque.
* It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape
victims and homosexuals.
The hard quantifiable fact is that the "peaceful majority", the "silent
majority", is cowed and extraneous.
Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet
the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million
people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant.
China's huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to
kill a staggering 70 million people.
The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering
sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an
orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese
civilians; most killed by sword, shovel and bayonet.
And, who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said
that the majority of Rwandans were "peace loving"?
History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of
reason we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: Peace-loving
Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.
Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don't speak up because, like
my friend from Germany, they will awake one day and find that the fanatics own
them, and the end of their world will have begun.
Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans,
Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died
because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late.
As for us who watch it all unfold; we must pay attention to the only group that
counts; the fanatics who threaten our way of life.
Lastly, at the risk of offending, anyone who doubts that the issue is serious
and just ignores it, contributes to the passiveness
that allows the problems to expand.
So, extend yourself a bit and send this on and on and on!! Let us hope that
thousands, world wide, will read this - think about it - and send it on.

BETRAYED: THE CONSPIRACY TO DIVIDE JERUSALEM by

THE ANNAPOLIS PEACE SUMMIT
Annapolis, Maryland
In the pre-dawn hours, my car winds its way down the streets of this historic
city toward the Naval Academy and the Annapolis Summit. Precious fathers,
mothers and grandmothers shiver in the cold darkness of the morning. Some of the
men blow shofars and pray openly. Most hold signs printed with their pleas:
"Don't touch Jerusalem," "Don't touch the Bible land," "Don't touch prophecy."
Unbidden tears slide down my cheeks for I sense how desperate and hopeless they
must feel. These who love Jerusalem are overshadowed by the high and mighty of
the world: President George W. Bush,
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert,
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas,
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,
former British Prime Minister Tony Blair
and foreign ministers from many Arab states. Among those are known terrorists
who are being treated as honored diplomats.
This is the first international peace conference since the U.S. organized-Madrid
Peace Summit at the end of Operation Desert Storm in 1991. It was during that
debacle that I openly challenged former Secretary of State
James Baker over
Jerusalem. The names change, but the desire to offer up Jerusalem as the
sacrifice to appease terrorists is as passionate as ever.
The Madrid Summit destroyed the economy of Israel. It caused the overthrow of
the government as literally tens of thousands of Russian Jewish immigrants were
forced to sleep in tents. Why? The U.S. froze $10 billion in loan guarantees
that would have provided housing for these destitute men, women and children.
Israel was ultimately forced to give up more than 80 villages and towns, i.e.,
Jericho, Hebron, and Bethlehem.
Today, the vultures gather again, sensing that more of the City of David will be
laid on the altar of sacrifice. President Bush
has agreed in what is being called "The Final
Status Plan" to divide Jerusalem before the end of his term in 2008. He has also
demanded that Israel halt construction in the settlements for refugees. The plan
is to turn those settlements over to the PLO.
The Saudis, of course, want the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon to be able to
move into Israel, not into the Palestinian Authority land holdings. The plan
calls for Palestine to be a state within one year, with East Jerusalem as the
capital. This "Final Status Plan" calls for vigorous, unceasing, aggressive
negotiations that would end in the creation of a two-state region by the end of
2008.
It seems that the participants of the summit are trying to breathe life back
into the Road Map plan introduced in 2003. When
Mahmoud Abbas refused to implement the very
first clause of the plan – to disarm the terrorist organizations – the plan died
in utero.
The Saudis, of course, were overjoyed to hear President
Bush's comments during the
Summit. The Road Map, an invention of Saudi Arabia and the Arab League was
designed to force Israel to the bargaining table. Then-Prime Minister
Ariel Sharon related to me
that he had asked for 14 amendments. Secretary of State
Colin Powell flatly
refused to include any of Sharon's
amendments. Phase Two of the plan as outlined was the dismantling of all terror
organizations and their infrastructure. HAMAS, Islamic Jihad, al-Aksa Martyrs
Brigade to name a few would have been forced to turn over all illegal weapons
and stop terror incitement.
Needless to say, Phase Two was not implemented by
Abbas. Quite the opposite occurred: HAMAS took
over Gaza; Abbas'
own terror organization, Fatah and al-Aksa martyrs Brigade continue to kill
Jews. (The latest murder was that of a 29-year old father of two from the
village of Shavei Shomron, just days before the Summit in Annapolis.)
The acceptance of this vile plan would turn Israel into a living hell. The
Jewish people would be forced to live next door to a state controlled by Islamic
fanatics such as Hamas. I am reminded over and over of the scripture in Psalm
83:2-5: For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; and those who hate You have
lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, and
consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, "Come, and let
us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered
no more." For they have consulted together with one consent; they form a
confederacy against You..."
I stand here now with this document in my hand – this "Agreement of Joint
Understanding" to which both parties have pledged acceptance. This document, if
followed, will result in the division of Jerusalem. I've asked myself how the
U.S. government could partner with a terror organization responsible for
thousands of terror attacks worldwide. How could President
Bush cavalierly shake
hands with the man responsible for the Munich massacre?
Is George W. Bush
so consumed by his legacy that he would sacrifice Jerusalem and hundreds of
thousands of innocent Jews to attain his goal? Israel would have to give up the
Temple Mount and the Western Wall in East Jerusalem; evacuate most of the
strategic West Bank which would leave it vulnerable to rocket attacks in Tel
Aviv and at its international airport.
What does the future hold for Israel? President
Bush has indicated that Israel had "painful
compromises" to make during the negotiations that were to begin immediately. I
can tell you that Israel seemed very alone during the Annapolis Summit. It
greatly concerns me. Why? President Clinton
attempted to divide Jerusalem in January 2001, before the end of his term of
office. He almost succeeded. I believe those negotiations and
Arafat's subsequent
rejection of Clinton's
offer led directly to the events of 9/11.
Now, President Bush
is attempting to follow in Bill Clinton's
footsteps. I, for one, am appalled to have to admit that President
Bush believes the
Palestinian cause is the root of Islamic hatred for America. His advisors are
likely telling him that this agreement between Israel and the Palestinian
Authority will affect his legacy in a most positive way. How wrong can they
possibly be? Only time will tell.
Can the Palestinian crisis be resolved? YES!
I believe that the first action that must be taken is a rehabilitation package
calling for the dismantling of the 59 U.N.-maintained refugee camps. The Arab
world needs to provide resettlement, employment and housing for the refugees.
This would be similar to what happened to the Jewish refugees throughout Europe
and the Arab world in 1948. Secondly, I would do everything to help Jordan grant
citizenship to Arabs in the West bank. I believe that the Hashemite Kingdom of
Jordan should serve as their representative body. Jordan granted citizenship
status to West Bank Palestinians until the late 1980s. The Palestinians do not
need more land; they need a life free of Islamic kindergarten camps that
continue to instil hatred for the Jews into children at an early age.

UK SIXTH FORM COLLEGE FORBIDS CREATION MEETING OVER
HOMOSEXUAL ISSUE

On Tuesday 19th November, Creation Research UK was
informed by Miss Natalie Clifford,
(student organiser) of the Christian Union at Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form
College, Cheadle campus, that the voluntary lunchtime meeting with
John Mackay from
Creation Research as guest speaker, was being vigorously opposed by members of
the science department, on the grounds that John
Mackay takes a stand against homosexuality. The
advertised topic John
had been asked to address was "Exposing Evolution, Proving Creation"
On Wednesday 20th November we were told by Miss
Clifford that the
meeting was formally cancelled by the Enrichment Officer, in the absence of the
Principal, and that no meeting at an alternative venue off campus would be
allowed, even though such a venue had been offered by a local church.
This is despite the facts that (a) the UK Minister of
Education has recently stated that Govt School Science teachers are permitted to
discuss creationism in the classroom, whilst required to mention that it has no
scientific support, and (b) the voluntary meeting in question was actually for a
Christian Union, and was not even for a science classroom.
The fact that science teachers
would oppose a voluntary Christian Union meeting on the scientific evidence
against evolution and for creation, by reference to a moral issue, would also
seem to show that acceptance of the scientific case for evolution is associated
with acceptance of a moral case for homosexuality and an intolerance of any
alternative.
It is also very evident that such science teachers are
openly discriminating against Christians (as well as anyone else) who take a
stand on creation and Judaeo-Christian morality and as a result are Theo-phobic
not homophobic – in other words, they fear God, not man.
This is a
situation that should concern every caring family in the UK, and every God
fearing person and Christian Church leader who sees this attack for what it is -
the complete undermining of the family and freedom of religion.
OUR STAND IS PERHAPS BEST ILLUSTRATED BY OUR FOLLOWING

CAN YOU INHERIT HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOUR - ARE YOU BORN
THAT WAY? asked one young man. The quick answer is since homosexuals only
mate with their own sex they do not pass on genes so you cannot ever inherit
homosexuality. Of course if they do mate with a woman and have a child then they
have just proved they are not homosexual except when they want to be, so again
you cannot inherit homosexual genes, even though you can inherit the ability to
make a choice about your sex life. If the evolutionist takes himself seriously
then he must admit that homosexuality is selected against as it has no survival
advantage so they are naturally deleted from society.
God the Creator calls homosexuality sin and rebellion
against His created plan of one man for one woman for life. God is actually
tougher than that – He reveals in Romans that homosexuality is the long term
consequence of a society which first denies God, then ceases to give thanks to
Him, then He judges them by handing them over to irrationality, so that men
actually think it is good to sexually love another man, and women start wanting
sex with women and so they will destroy themselves because God's rule has always
been the wages of sin is death.
Read it for yourself in Romans 1 - the whole chapter,
and in the first Letter to the Corinthians where Paul writes "Do you not know
that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither
the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor

IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN WHO REALLY
CARES for homosexuals, thieves, drunkards etc, then do you love them enough to
warn them that they are on their way to hell AND THEY NEED TO REPENT AND
BELIEVE. The Lord Jesus never beat about the bush about serious issues such as
where we would spend eternity. Pray much with us on this situation as it is
increasingly the FAT end of the wedge in banning Christian work in Schools,
Government and Private and Church, around the globe.

Lawyers Christian Fellowship attempts to wake us from our stupor to the fact
that we need to pray for our leaders, for those in authority that God’s will be
done. That they wake up to the direction that they are taking us in this period
of the culture of death.
The fruit of the 40 years of the abortion act has necessitated the recruitment
of immigrant workforces and the cultures they bring, whilst we have a voice we
can pray that our culture, Christian based, is not more debased.
THE QUEEN'S SPEECH
The Lawyers Christian Fellowship have published the following response,
following Queen's Speech to Parliament
Romans 1 v 25 - 'They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped
and served created things rather than the Creator...'
'Yesterday the Queen outlined the Government's plans for the laws it wants to
introduce this year. Included in the list of twenty nine Bills were the Human
Tissue and Embryos Bill and the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill. These
Bills will have a massive impact on the foundations of our society. It is
significant that in the media coverage of the Queen's Speech so little has been
said about these Bills which will have an effect on some of the basic building
blocks of our society. As our recent updates have indicated, the content of
these Bills will create further obstacles for Christians wanting to live out and
proclaim Biblical truth in the public arena and will have a negative impact on
the whole of society.
Human Tissue and Embryos Bill
Human and animal hybrids - striking at the heart of humanity
Redefining the family - removal of the father
Saviour siblings - designer babies and life as a commodity
The Government are pressing ahead with laws to allow the creation of 'cytoplasmic
hybrid embryos' (human cells mixed with animal eggs) and 'true' hybrids (human
eggs mixed with animal sperm and vice versa). Although these proposals have been
described as ones which will 'ensure Britain remains at the forefront of medical
research', experimenting in this way is not only a horrific affront to God's
creation order, usurping His role as Creator, but is highly dangerous, unethical
and unbiblical.
Furthermore, Parliament will relinquish to the regulator of embryo research, the
Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, the power to decide the boundaries
of science in this area in the future. We cannot predict what scientists will do
when given this amount of power to play with the embryo. Unimagined science
fiction possibilities could become a living reality.
The family as we know it will be redefined when laws are introduced to allow
lesbian couples to gain automatic legal status as parents (two mother legal
parenthood) over children born using a sperm donor, even though only one of them
will be biologically related to the child.
Homosexual men will also be allowed to apply for a parental order (two father
legal parenthood) where a child has been born from a surrogate mother. We can
only expect our society to suffer as the full effects of the redefined 'family'
are played out in years to come.
The previous legal stipulation that in IVF treatment there should be the
consideration of the need for a father is done away with and parenthood will be
defined in law according to a person's preference rather than truth, biological
fact or the child's best interests. This flies in the face of the biblical ideal
for family - that children should be born to a mother and a father who are
married.
The new Bill also broadens the scope for 'saviour siblings'. Existing law allows
embryo selection in order to treat existing children who suffer from life
threatening conditions. This process involves the destruction of countless other
healthy embryos. Proposals in the bill will extend the law so that embryos can
be selected to help children with a 'serious illness' too. As there is no legal
definition for 'serious illness', it could include anything which treatment
providers feel should fall within the definition and liberalise this already
flawed approach to the treatment of sick children.
